UPDATE ON TEMPORARY LIST CLOSURE
BURNHAM & BERROW MEDICAL CENTRE – PROPOSED LIST CLOSURE – PATIENT CONSULTATION
As you will be aware, Burnham & Berrow Medical Centre has had a temporary new patient list closure in place since August 2021, meaning we temporarily stopped accepting new patient registrations. Exceptions to this included new patients who lived at an address that was not covered by another practice and patients living at the same address as our existing patients and unable to register elsewhere eg newborns.
This temporary closure was due to come to an end on 30th November 2021 and we are in discussions with Somerset CCG about continuing the closure to new patients for a further 12 months. We would still continue to accept new patients who lived at an address that was not covered by another practice and patients living at the same address as our existing patients and unable to register elsewhere.
The new patient list closure will allow us to continue to provide general medical services to our existing patients and relieve some of the pressure on practice staff. We will continue to endeavour to recruit additional clinical staff capacity during that time.
We have been under increasing pressure due to shortage of clinical staff capacity. Despite continual recruitment attempts, we have had limited success in filling our vacancies. To date, we have managed this by employing Locums to work within the practice. However, Locum availability is limited and is not always sufficient to meet our needs.
We are asking our existing patients if you would like to make any comments on our proposal to continue with our current new patient list closure for a further 12 months. If you would like to do so, then please either write to the practice, marking your envelope “Proposed List Closure – Patient Consultation” or email us on firstname.lastname@example.org with this in the title of the email. The consultation will be open for you to comment until Friday 17th December 2021. We will submit your feedback as part of the application that will be sent to Somerset CCG for consideration. We will provide any further updates via our website and notices within the practice.
