Maternity Support & Pregnancy Services

Congratulations on your pregnancy

Taunton

Regarding births at Taunton, please tell the Somerset NHS Foundation Trust Maternity Team a bit more about yourself by completing the maternity self referral form.

The form asks questions about yourself and your medical history. Please answer as fully as possible, as this will ensure that you receive the most appropriate care.

Please ensure you fill all the mandatory fields on the form (those marked with an asterisk) or it will not submit and will not be received by the maternity booking team. If your submission has been successful you will receive a response page back immediately.

Your referral is received immediately via the maternity admin team for processing. A midwife will contact you within two weeks to arrange your first booking appointment, which will be between 8-10 weeks of pregnancy.

If you require any support with the Somerset NHS Foundation Trust online form please call the maternity teams designated phone number 01823 343321. This is an answerphone and the maternity team may take up to three working days to get back to you. Please leave your contact details.

Taking Medication?

If you are currently taking any regular medications we recommend making an appointment with your GP as soon as possible following a positive pregnancy test to review these.

We also recommend taking a daily dose of folic acid (400 micrograms ideally) at least three months before pregnancy and a dose of vitamin D – 10 micrograms. If you wish to take these as part of a pregnancy multivitamin tablet, make sure they don’t contain vitamin A (or retinol). These can be bought at any supermarket or pharmacy.

Some women may require a higher dose of folic acid (5mg) – this can only be prescribed by a GP. For more information regarding this please view both links below:
