Burnham and Berrow Medical Centre is committed to providing a safe, comfortable environment for persons who use our services. With this in mind, we offer a chaperone for our patients.
A chaperone is a person who acts as a support to a patient having an examination of their body.
All patients (both male and female) are entitled to have a chaperone present for an examination or procedure (including Family Planning and Cervical Smear) where they feel one is required.
If you are booking an appointment to see a Doctor and you think that you will require an examination please inform the Doctor at this time if you would like a chaperone present. This will then ensure that the Doctor books the consultation when a chaperone will be available.
You can request a chaperone at any time and we will do our best to provide a member of staff who has received training as a chaperone. However, if we are unable to do so at the time of request, it may be necessary to reschedule your appointment for a time when a trained chaperone is available.
In certain clinical situations, your healthcare professional may also require a chaperone to be present in accordance with our Chaperone policy. In these circumstances, the Doctor or Nurse may have to book another appointment for you when a trained chaperone is available.
If you would like more detailed information, please follow the link to our Chaperone leaflet below:
