Carers Help & Support

Burnham & Berrow Medical Centre Carer's Support

BMC has a Carer's Support Team. Sarah, Lynn & Maria are members of our Clerical & Reception Team who are also here to offer support to our patients who are carers, including young carers.

Their role as the Carer's Support Team is to signpost carers to services and organisations which may be able to offer them help and support. They will aim to give information, assistance and respond to enquiries from carers. If you are a carer and would like information regarding a specific area of interest, please ask to speak to Sarah Lynn or Maria who will do their best to help you.

Carer's Register at Burnham and Berrow Medical Centre

Burnham Medical Centre has a register of people who are carers. We also register within our patient's medical records when a patient has a carer.

There are many advantages to having a carer's register. For instance, whilst their carer's details are an essential component of the patient's records, the fact that one of our patients is a Carer is also an essential part of their records.

If you are a Carer and wish this information to be included on your medical records, please complete a Carer's Register Application form here.

Young Carers - Is this you?

A Young Carer is someone under 25 years old, who gives unpaid support to a someone they know who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or addiction problems. It could be your Mum, Dad any family member or person you live with.

Young Carers Support is available at Burnham & Berrow Medical Centre.

We can signpost you to people and organisations who can help you.

Free NHS Health Checks for Carers

We offer free NHS Health Checks to eligible patients aged 40 - 74. These are intended to assess the risk of developing heart disease, stroke, kidney disease or diabetes and will be offered to patients without pre-existing disease every five years.

The clinics are run by our Health Care Assistants and will look for early warning signs so that prompt action can be taken to improve your health and prevent the onset of these conditions.

Our first priority is to invite Carers to have an NHS Health Check because the Carer's health often takes second place to that of the person they care for. Please take the opportunity to look after yourself and book an appointment for your free NHS Health Check.
